Andrew Darling singer/songwriter
An utterly unique singer-songwriter-storyteller with a voice that weeps and soars, Andrew Darling’s songs are spellbinding, emotive and inspired by the greats: Dylan, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Dirty Three. A seasoned performer of Australian festivals, Andrew’s performances are poetic, stunning examples of how captivating original music can be. With bursts of daring trumpet and accompanied by the haunting, powerful cello of Michael Arvanitakis, Andrew’s songs are born from the depths of a life devoted to seeking beauty and fascination – songs of love, adventure, chaos and the treasures found in the wreckage. His songs inhabit the places we all know but hesitate to express.
Andrew Darling is a musician and artist of many lives: singer/songwriter, jazz trumpeter, published poet, inspired front-man. He is a seasoned festival performer, having appeared at Woodford Folk Festival, Illawarra Folk Festival, Recharge 2020, the Sydney Opera House’s Vivid Festival among many others. His original band, The Anecdote released their haunting debut album ‘Carved Upon the Air’ to acclaim in 2017 – ‘The music is a revelation and their creation is something truly unique.’ (The Music).
Throughout his career, Andrew has performed and recorded with artists such as Dan Kelly, Greg Arnold, Tibet's Tenzin Choegyal and Gareth Liddiard (The Drones). He was the frontman of Byron Bay's celebrated funk band Fatter Than Nusrat and has performed with dub outfit Sine, Mariachi band Sin Frontera, swing band Dr Jazz and funk behemoth Old Greg.
